Hi Sarah- I have a bunch of reviews for Seattle gluten-free bakeries that you may find useful. There isn't much special in Bainbridge Island or Mt Vernon as far as I know. Mt Vernon is something of a strip mall type area, with the typical chains. Anacortes is where my grandparents live, and I've eaten there a few times but there isn't anything special for gluten-free stuff as far as i know. There used to be a health food store around there, but it was small and I think it may have closed. There are two main grocery stores; a Safeway and another local option. The latter might have a few GF items but it is pricey. As far as restaurants in Anacortes, I've been to a local Greek place and a very mediocre sushi place. You might check out the chamber of commerce in Anacortes- my grandmother wilma volunteers there, although she may not have much info on GF stuff she loves to hlp visitors. To return to downtown Seattle, Kisaku sushi is quite excellent and understands wheat issues.

Hope this helps!

Corbetts has some great GF fish!! If you are looking for a great product for home,Starfish, a divison of the seafood company Pacific Seafood, based in Portland just came out with a great gluten free line of battered fish, haddock, cod and halibut. They are in Whole Foods at present and are going out to other retails stores also.

Hey Kelly! It was Kim that wrote the review, right, and not you? I was going by the attribution at the bottom of the article- just wanted to make sure that was correct.

Hi Sheri! Maybe there are some Illinois bakeries lurking in the woodwork- I'll have to check around. I was surprised to find all these places in Portland and Davis, so you never know.. :)

Hi Kate- I hurried to post about the coffee shop next door JUST FOR YOU. :) Enjoy!

Jill- I'm glad you found the Sensitive Baker. I wish I had been able to stop there... *sniff* You are very welcome. Happy dining!

Hi Katrina- I can't believe it took me 5 years to find this place! tee hee. (Ok, ok, I guess I'm just unobservant.) :D

Ginger- Excellent! You lucky girl. Now you can have cider and/or redbridge with some FISH 'N CHIPS, how cool is that! I eat seafood occasionally, mostly when we go out to eat. I used to be a very strict vegetarian (was even vegan for a while) but I started to eat seafood in Japan because I really wanted to participate in the food culture there. I do prefer a vegetarian diet, and seafood is my only deviation. I hope this post doesn't offend any of my vegetarian visitors, but I think it's important to get the word out about places that cater to gluten free clients! Actually, you could probably cobble together a decent vegetarian meal at this place- there must be something to eat with the fries...

PS thank you all for your positive comments... I got a rather hurtful comment this morning on my idli post and it had me a bit down. The perils of blogging, I guess. *hugs to all*- your encouraging comments keep me going!

Yippee! I will be in Portland at the end of February for a vacay and was already excited to visit some favorite haunts (McMenamin's for hard cider and fresh cut fries - hopefully still GF - at least they were when I worked there in 97). I love fish and chips! I had no idea you ate seafood! Thanks for the reviews and tips!
