My daughter and wife are both gluten sensitive, and love the bread that comes from Pamela's bread mix, but they like soft and slightly sweeter bread. I am an Italian bread eater, and I can even eat it without too much trouble if I run out of the cheap bread.
The pancake mix is out of this world for making any baked goodies, such as muffins, waffles, pancakes, ect. I can't tell the difference from those and regular muffins, et al.

I have no problem with Pamela's mix but I don't concur with the comments here on BRM. My first attempts with BRM GF bread were inconsistent, luckily my first attempt was acceptable but results of 2, 3 and 4 weren't as good. After some experimentation and breadmaker adjustments I think I now have good tasting, good textured bread every time.

WOW...what great reviews!

I have never been a big fan of Pamela's. The exceptions are her brownies (killer good!) and her pancake mix. My children and I are all GF, and recently spent an extended time away from home (and all our GF staples). Each week we had a new pancake mix, and Pamela's was in the top 3.

I haven't tried the new whole grain mix. Have some in my cupboard. I was excited to find it...now I'm waiting to compare my response to yours!

After years of not making bread (I was a tester for Hagman's Bread book, and after years of baking, got burnt out on all those failed loaves!) I made a loaf of BRM Homemade Wonderful GF Bread Mix. Eggy and cake-like is a term I would use. Very soft. I used the 1.5 lb basic white setting on my machine. Barely colored the crust at all. When I compare it to photos of others results, I see a real difference.

I want a bread that will rise (no mini loaves), have some texture (like G bread), and not crumble when eaten as a sandwich. Mix or from scratch, I don't care, as long as it works. Oven or bread machine...have both.

Any suggestions?

I agree! The Bobs Red Mill Whole Grain was wholly awful! I was really excited to make a nice, hearty dark bread. Instead, it was foul tasting and no one wanted to eat it. I couldn't blame them!

I am glad I'm not the only one who thinks Pamela's bread mix is AWFUL. it's unbearably, cloyingly sweet and has no crust (i.e. too soft, like you said). I can't believe people think of that as bread - To me, it's cake!
