Hi vegj,
Cool, thanks! I know what you mean about the heat- luckily it's been unseasonably cool here lately so I've been more in the mood to cook. :) I think using dried organic beans makes a REALLY tasty tofu.
I think it's much easier to make cotton/firm tofu than silken, according to what I read. Luckily I tend to prefer cotton tofu. Good Hunting's video may have instructions for making soft basket tofu... trying to remember. :)

This looks amazing and I intend to try it just as soon as the weather cools down a little.(It's about 95 degrees in my kitchen and that's before I start cooking.):( I made the quick one with pre-made soymilk and lemon juice, and it was pretty good, but I have the feeling it would be so much nicer with
the fresh beans.I can just imagine how nice the fried tofu was too.

Looks like it was more the "cotton" than "silk" texture. Is that right?

Hi Sophie,
Thanks for coming by! There really is a difference in the flavor of freshly made tofu- I keep wanting to make more now, lol.

Hi Ellen,
Yup, tofu is yummy stuff! I've been contemplating making a bbq sauce style tofu steak- I'll have to get on that. So you've made tofu before? Very cool. It's nice to know I can make my own... I just need to find a cheaper source of organic dried soybeans. The bulk bins at my local Whole Foods are gluten plagued, heh heh. So glad to see you back!

Ok, now I'm totally hooked. I've finally grown to love tofu, with your help and some of the other contributors on the GF veg listserve. Tonight we had grilled tofu with bbq sauce (from the Whole Foods cookbook) - it was delish. Your tofu looks fantastic, as does the eggplant. I can't wait to try making my own! I have a soymilk maker that makes tofu, but I never thought of just doing it from scratch, without the aid of an electric device. I will have to try it, now that I'm loving tofu. Thanks for the inspiration!

Wow, I'm really impressed that you made your own! I completely agree with you about how making the tofu has helped you to understand it better. It does make a difference (nutritionally speaking anyway) knowing a bit about how things are made, for example the different micronutrients that you get from the different coagulents.

It looks really tasty too and I bet it is so much nicer fresh!
